Recently, the titanium alloy manned module of the all sea deep manned submersible developed by the Institute of Metals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences passed the acceptance. It is reported that the all sea deep manned submersible is a new generation of manned submersible independently developed and constructed by China. After completion, the submersible will complete manned diving and conduct scientific research operations in the world's largest depth (about 11000 meters) of the ocean, which is the top manifestation of deep-sea entry ability. The manned cabin is the core component of a deep-sea manned submersible, which requires light weight, high strength, weldability, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, and long service life. It has high requirements for the large-scale preparation ability and comprehensive mechanical properties of materials. The titanium alloy material used in manned spacecraft has been widely used in the aerospace field before. Researchers have found that titanium alloys are more ideal for deep-sea equipment due to their many advantages and uniqueness. Since 2014, the Institute of Metals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has conducted in-depth research, demonstration, and preliminary research on key technologies such as materials for manned compartments used in deep-sea manned submersibles. After the project was officially approved in 2016, the institute led the formation of the "National Team" for the development of deep-sea titanium alloy manned cabins in the sea. Over the course of three years, the research and development team has solved several fundamental scientific problems, overcome a series of key technological bottlenecks, achieved multiple scientific and technological innovation achievements, fully completed the research and development work, and passed the assessment of deep-sea hydrostatic external pressure tests.
